Can I have my Ontario online casino account transferred to a family member if I no longer want it?

Accounts are personal and non-transferable by law

Every player account at a licensed Ontario online casino is tied to one specific, verified individual. Only eligible individuals who hold a valid player account are permitted to log on to their account and gamble. The AGCO's Registrar's Standards for Internet Gaming go further: funds shall not be transferred between player accounts without the Registrar's approval. That approval is not something a player can request — it's an operator-level regulatory provision, not a customer service option. In practice, no licensed Toronto-area operator will transfer an account or its balance to another person.

There's also a one-account-per-person rule. Players may have only one player account with an Operator. So your family member can't receive your account and keep their own — and they certainly can't receive yours as a substitute for opening their own.

The withdrawal rules reinforce this further. Withdrawals shall be verified and authorized to ensure the following: the withdrawal is being made by the holder of the account; the withdrawal is being transferred to an account of which the player is a legal holder. Money sitting in your account can only leave to a payment method in your name — it can't be redirected to a family member's bank account either.

Why it's built this way

The rationale isn't bureaucratic red tape. Player account identity is foundational to Ontario's anti-money-laundering obligations, age verification (the legal gambling age is 19+), and responsible gambling protections. The AGCO has developed strong rules that gambling sites have to follow to promote responsible gambling, protect vulnerable people like youth and self-excluded players, and enhance game integrity. Allowing account transfers would undermine all three of those pillars at once.

What you can actually do instead

Your real options are straightforward:

  • Withdraw your balance. Cash out whatever funds remain to your own verified payment method. That's your money and you're entitled to it.
  • Close or deactivate your account. Players may elect to deactivate their player account at any time and, once the election is made, the account is deactivated. Contact the operator's support team to do this.
  • Your family member opens their own account. If they're 19+ and want to play on a licensed Ontario site, they register independently with their own identity documents. Each person's account is their own from day one.
  • Consider self-exclusion if that's the real goal. If you're stepping away because gambling has become a problem rather than just a pastime, BetGuard (betguard.ca) is Ontario's centralized self-exclusion service — a single request covers all licensed Ontario operators at once. Support is also available through ConnexOntario at 1-866-531-2600.

To confirm any operator is legitimately registered in Ontario, look for the iGaming Ontario and BetGuard logos on the site, or check the official operator registry at iGaming Ontario's website directly.
